A theme in this short post is that the Denison men are confirming the observation that they are currently the strongest men’s team in Division III.
Denison men’s records set at this meet, through Friday:
Event 3 Men 200 Yard Medley Relay - conference record, team record
Event 5 Men 800 Yard Freestyle Relay - conference record, pool record
Event 9 Men 200 Yard IM - Patrick Daly, conference record
Event 14 Men 400 Yard Medley Relay - conference record, team record
Event 20 Men 200 Yard Freestyle - Jack Hill, team record
Event 22 Men 100 Yard Breaststroke - Elijah Venos, conference record
(Let us know if we missed one.)
If you are on another men’s team in Division III, and you aren’t worried about Denison because you think they are just flexing on a rebuilding Lords team, you are kidding yourself. Big Red is not just racing the teams in the pool. They are racing the history of the most successful conference in Division III swimming. And they are winning.
And we still have another night of finals to go.
Standout performances among the Lords include:
Roman Savage’s win in 100 Fly, with the added bonus of him going 47-something for the second time this season.
Ethan Manske’s 400 IM event win, at a really respectable 3:52.32.
Djordje Dragojlovic’s stunning 100 Back in 47.33.
Kenyon’s 200 Medley relay of Mr. Dragojlovic, Noel Tumbasz, Mr. Savage, and Peter Dunson, with a time (1:27.68) not far off the (old) conference record.
On Denison’s relay, every relay exchange produced a sub-20-second split. That’s hard to keep up with. First-years handled two legs and a sophomore handled a third.
Worth noting Djordje Dragojlovic had the fastest leg overall at 19.22.
That seems as good a place as any to wrap this up.
Wow! Denison is on Fire! And, if he keeps this up at NCAAs, Kenyon’s Djordje looks like the front runner for swimmer of the year!
NYU’s good fortune in having Elle Motekaitis for her 5th year cannot be overstated. Her impact contributed to an almost upset of Emory at UAA’s, and her presence on relays at NCAAS could lead to multiple relay titles this year!
