Your point is sound. Maas and Finkel look like traditional recipients of this award. But are we going to do this every year, enforce one set of criteria to the exclusion of everything else that matters at this meet? Maas and Finkel broke the streaks of Clasen and Applebaum. But breaking streaks is not as impressive as creating them (I know that is not your entire point about Maas and Finkel, but it is relevant).
You are a hell of a distance swimmer - one of the best we've seen, and one race doesn't change that. We are disappointed by the end of the streak, so we can only imagine what it is like for you. And that makes your likable and generous response to the outcome all the more admirable.
